Invisalign Teen is a special orthodontic product specially designed for teenagers. The teenage years are complicated and confusing and often leave teens feeling the need to improve their appearance. However, for some, the idea of traditional metal braces may seem worse than simply leaving their teeth the way they are. Additionally, traditional metal braces can be difficult for teens who play sports or instruments. If your teen is ready for orthodontic care, ask Dr. Capps about Invisalign Teen. This specialized version of clear aligning trays contains a compliance feature (in the form of a blue dot on each tray) that helps our team understand how often the trays are being worn. This helps keep our younger patients on track with the course of their treatment.
Ideal candidates for orthodontic treatment may have bite misalignments resulting from thumbsucking, trauma, early tooth loss, or genetics. Our goal is to treat these issues early-on to avoid potentially larger issues, such as chipped teeth or TMJ disorder, in the future. Malocclusion (a misaligned bite) can also affect your ability to speak and eat normally, which is why it should be addressed as early as possible. Furthermore, a straight smile boosts confidence and morale, leading to healthy self-esteem and a sense of well-being.
In some cases, Dr. Capps may feel that metal braces are most appropriate for an individual's treatment. However, Invisalign is a great solution for those who need or want to straighten their teeth but do not wish to deal with the hassle or appearance of traditional metal braces. Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are created with state-of-the-art technology that customizes each tray to your specific and unique dental needs. Your trays will need to be worn about 22 hours a day, and should only be removed for eating and brushing your teeth. We find that our patients appreciate the discreet nature of their trays and comply well with treatment. Invisalign can address many common orthodontic concerns, such as:
- Overbite, underbite, and/or crossbite
- Crooked, gapped, or protruding teeth
What To Expect
Before a treatment plan is created for your orthodontic care, Made Ya Smile Dental will provide a comprehensive consultation. We will take digital x-rays and 3D images of your facial structures, including your teeth and jawbone so that we can gain a full insight into your individual needs and concerns. Finally, we will use an intra-oral scanner and advanced technology to forecast the printing of each tray that will be included in your series. When your aligners are finished, you will return to our office to pick them up. We will show you how to use them and how long to wear each tray. Invisalign works by applying gentle pressure to each tooth, moving them into their proper places. Each tray will be worn for about two weeks then replaced with the next tray in your personalized series. For your convenience, the trays will be numbered so you are always sure which one to use next.
You will return to our office for follow-up visits about every six weeks so that our team can monitor our progress and make any necessary adjustments. Your treatment should last around a year, while specific treatment times can vary according to your needs as well as your compliance.
After your treatment has been completed and your teeth have reached the desired position, your Invisalign use is concluded and you will be fitted for a custom retainer. Your retainer will become one of the most important aspects of your orthodontic care as it will ensure your teeth remain in their new position as your jaw adjusts to the placement. Made Ya Smile Dental uses Invisalign Vivera® retainers, which are created of the same materials and in the same manner as your clear-aligners. To prevent any future complications, you should plan to wear your retainers at all times (unless otherwise directed) for the first three months after your treatment has been completed. Our team asks that you bring your retainer when you attend your annual exams and biannual cleanings so that we can ensure they still fit and function well.
Some dental insurance providers will cover the cost (or a portion) of Invisalign. If you will be utilizing an insurance policy, discuss this with a member of our team at your initial consultation so your benefits can be determined in advance. We will gladly contact your provider to understand your coverage before calculating any out-of-pocket expenses. If you are unable to afford your care, ask us about low-interest medical financing and payment plans. We are eager to help you achieve the gorgeous smile you dream of.
